72nd kinta troop 41st anniversary campfire
Four hundred scouts and girl guides throughout Perak attended the 41st Anniversary Camp Fire in Ipoh recently.
It was organised by the 72nd Kinta Scout Troop of SMJK Yuk Choy with a theme ‘Myth of the Abyss Treasure’. The chairman of SMJK Yuk Choy’s board of directors, Leong Foh Sen, officiated at the opening. He called on the participants to interact and cultivate a “spirit of 1Malaysia”.
The participants took part in various competitions, such as Marching Competition, Modern Cooking Competition, Backwood’s Man Competition, Mini Gadget Competition, Dance Competition, Sketch Competition, Banner Competition, Scarf Design Competition and Fancy Dress Competition.
The overall champion in the competition went to Ipoh 39th Kinta Troop of the SMJK Sam Tet; the second place to 49th Kinta Troop of the SMJK Poi Lam, Ipoh; and the third place to 7th Taiping Troop of SMJK Hua Lian, Taiping.
Among the visitors was the Minister of Finance II, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, who admired the structure built by the scouts which resembled ‘The Sphinx’ in Egypt. Dato’ Seri Ahmad, who was a scout during his school days in St Michael Institution, hopes that more such activities will be organised by the school to produce all-rounded students.
