Silver State’s Opportunities Promote Abroad

The Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) has prepared a presentation entitled ‘Silver State’s Opportunities’ to woo foreign investors to the state.

It is in the form of a compact disc (CD). One thousand copies have been burned and will be distributed wherever PCCCI goes on a trade mission.

The compact disc shows the availability of various industries and products in Perak, including the manufacturing of water pumps, rubber products, shoes, frozen foodstuffs, pvc and polyurethane leather and fresh fruits such as pomelo and starfruit.

It is learnt that PCCCI decided to have its own presentation as it is disappointed with the outdated presentation from a State Government’s agency.

At its recent 13-day trade mission to Eastern Europe, the video presentation was successfully screened to promote the state.

The 27-member delegation visited Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Romania. It was led by PCCCI’s deputy president Liew Sew Yee.

“We chose to visit there because they are emerging capitalist countries, which we need to know more and as well as promoting our state to them”, said a member of delegation Dato’ Chin Lean Choong, secretary of PCCCI’s external affairs committee.

“Face-to-face discussions were held with the entrepreneurs in the four countries. Now they know what our state can offer and we know what they can offer”, he added.

Dato Chin said the discussions included possibility of joint-ventures and bilateral trade with those countries. “At least, we have put Perak and Malaysia as a whole on their map”, he said.

Early last year, PCCCI also sent a trade mission to the Middle East. The delegation visited Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai and Dammam in Saudi Arabia.

Ipoh white coffee is among the agro-based and manufacturing products which have received good response following the successful trade mission. Others are ground-nuts and pvc tents.

Apart from the various products in Perak gaining acceptance in the Middle-East countries, a number of business deals and joint-ventures were also sealed.

It achieved its objective to pave the way for Perak businessmen to explore bilateral trade and investment opportunities in the Middle-East.

The tour which had resulted in fruitful business meetings with the respective chambers of commerce, was facilitated by the Malaysian Trade Commission in Jeddah and Dubai.
