Jeremy Nathan from the political section of the US Embassy Kuala Lumpur paid a courtesy call on Dato’ Seri Nizar Jamaluddin yesterday. The meeting, held at the PAS Office at Medan Istana, lasted for 80 minutes.

At a press conference, held after the meeting, Nizar said that Nathan’s visit was scheduled. Among others, matters pertaining to the current constitutional impasse in the state were discussed. It was merely an exchange of ideas and information, said Nizar. And this was confirmed by Nathan himself.

“We’ll meet MCA, DAP, PKR and UMNO which are represented in Perak. The US Government does not take sides with any one political party. However, we have positions on political issues which are consistent with specific parties”, said Nathan to the media.

“Whatever insights gained from the visit would provide us with a greater understanding of the mindset of Perakeans,” he added.

This will definitely make Zambry feel uneasy and edgy. The world’s only superpower needs to know what’s taking place in this little corner of the world.

Information is not the privilege of a few. The ruling elite should take cognizance of this.
