An Enthusiastic Response from City Council

Ipoh City Council is showing some determination to keep the city clean, but the residents appear to be unenthusiastic about it.

In response to Ipoh Echo’s call (IE87 issue) on the people to co-operate in keeping the city clean, the residents’ group of Taman Tinggi near Silibin planned a gotong-royong to clean up their housing estate.

The City Council enthusiastically sent about 30 of its employees and two Lorries to participate in the clean-up on January 23. But, disappointingly only a handful of the residents turned out.

Nevertheless, the undeterred City Council employees, who were armed with brooms, spades, cangkul (hoes) and wheel-barrows, went ahead with their task. They left after ensuring that Taman Tinggi had been cleaned of rubbish and clogged drains. Lorry-loads of rubbish and unwanted items were carted away.

“The City Council is also responding to requests from various areas around the city”, said an official. “We are having busy weekends now.”

He added residents need to be civic consciousness and restrain from throwing rubbish indiscriminately so that the estimated 20,000 illegal rubbish dumps throughout the city could be cleared eventually.

RECTIFYHING ERROR ON THE COMMENT DATED 1 MARCH 2010.

Rukun Tettanga Lim Gardens together with Lim Garden Residents Committee and MBI is carrying out a Gotong Royong on Saturday, 6 March 2010 at 8 am. Hopefully there is support from the Residents.

The cooperation of MBI is always there when they are requested to attend Gotong Royong projects. But many of the Residents are not cooperative in attending such activities. The Residents fail to relaisze that keeping their Taman is one of their responsibilities.Though the Residents go around saying that the MBI is not doing their job, I would say that the Residents are not doing their civic minded help to the community. It is time the Residents keep their Tamans clean by not piling up rubbish around every road corners. And what time the Residents throw their rubbish, I am not sure but I am sure of one thing , that they know that it is wrong and that is why they move like a sly old fox in the wee hours of the morning to carry out their mission.

Rukun Tettanga of Lim Gardens together with MBI is having a Gotong Royhong on 5 March 2020 at 8 am. Hopefully their will be dupport form the Residents.

Well, let’s see how the City Council responds to the call to clear Polo Ground of hawkers! They are such a hideous sight! MBI is wasting their money spent trying to beautify the park when just having hawkers there spoil the natural landscape of the park! Just clear out the hawkers!!!
