Chinese New Year Roundup
A Perak MB’s First Ever CNY Open House
Perak Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir had a busy morning on the first day of Chinese New Year.
At 10 a.m. he attended the Perak MCA Chinese New Year celebration at the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan China Yuk Choy. On hand to greet Zambry and his wife Datin Seri Saripah Zulk was Perak MCA Chairman Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.
Then at 1pm Zambry himself hosted a Chinese New Year Open House celebration at his official residence. His last minute idea to host the open house made him the first MB of Perak to ever do so and was a surprise to everyone in the community. An estimated crowd of 5,000 guests attended his function that day.
Even his guests were a surprise. On stage with the other BN leaders and government officials was Perak’s very own Dato’ Michelle Yeoh with fiancé Jean Todt and Michelle’s mum Janet.
Zambry and his wife Saripah fed the ‘dancing lions’, led the guests to toss the ‘loh sang’ dish and even handed out red ang pow packets to children.
Was this ‘surprise’ part of the 1Malaysia promotion or could it just be that Zambry was born in the year of the Tiger as he revealed in his speech. Whatever the reason, the idea was a refreshing break after all the recent politicking and was a novel change to roar in the Year of the Tiger.
