OBITUARY

Sung to the Tune of ‘Where have all the flowers gone’

(Apologies to Pete Seeger for music and lyrics)

Where have all the buildings gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the buildings gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the buildings gone?
Guys have downed them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Ipoh Echo mourns the passing of many of its old buildings.

To conserve is to protect from harm or damage by over-use. Conservation efforts are urgently needed to allow its rich past to contribute to its future. Syafiq, historical buildings and streets of IPOH present a more ‘democratic’ way to relate Ipoh’s past lives. They stand as physical evidence of diverse people who have taken part in the city’s growth.

Therefore all of us, should be proud of IPOH’s heritage buildings. Stakeholders, owners, city council, state government and the general public should play a role in up keeping all these buildings. For a start, the state government and the city council should set up a “Conservation Trust” to obtain money, then start the ball rolling.

In that way, all of us could focus attention on saving the best of the past for the future.

    i’ve the questions…
what are the challenges in the conservation work on ipoh’s heritage building?
and also, what are the problem occurred?
