I wish to laud the MBI for at least, for their effort to organize a workshop on Heritage and Dilapidated Ipoh Buildings.

Firstly, we must understand that many old and historical buildings are being down to make more modern buildings and huge profits. But I think it should be made on the expenses of heritage buildings.

Secondly, many people do not really know the idea of conservation. Many might talk about it, but truly they NEVER practice it.

Thirdly, in our country, only the Selangor state government have a State Heritage Conservation Programme, which one of its claim adopted : is to evoke a sense of pride among the people to care for heritage buildings. However in the recent case of Pudu Jail, the state government could not protect the worthy heritage property from the federal government. Nevertheless, I hope the Perak State Government would adopt a stronger Heritage Conservation Programme.

Fourthly, those politicians holding the portfolio that covers heritage and conservation,
must be knowledgeable about heritage buildings and conservations.

Furthermore, all should ponder how effective is the National Heritage Acts 2005 specially the Section 68 of the NHA? Otherwise we have all the talks and workshops till the cows comes back home, nothing would be achieved!

Finally, do invite local heritage societies, other interested non-governmental bodies, Penang architects like Lawrence Loh, writers like Khoo Salma, and other who could contribute towards this workshop.
