Direct flights between Ipoh and Medan are once again operational effective December 1. The service is being operated by Unimaju Fly Travel & Tours Limited, a local airline company, utilizing Firefly ATR 72 aircraft. Flights are 3 times per week, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and cover three destinations Subang-Ipoh-Medan and return.
Unimaju Fly Travel & Tours (UFTT) Managing Director, Habidi Zain stated that there was a demand for this sector especially for medical tourists as residents of Medan are interested in Ipoh’s medical services which is of good quality at competitive rates.
Habidi added that the cost of a one-way ticket to Medan is competitive from a low of RM148 to RM248 which is applicable to adults and children. Regarding the Ipoh-Subang flight, the one way cost is RM65.
One of the passengers taking the maiden flight to Medan was Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Roshidi Hashim who commended Firefly and Unimaju for committing this service for the benefit of the residents of Medan and Ipoh. “The timely commencement of this flight will also help the State and Ipoh City Council promote Visit Perak Year 2012.”
Roshidi’s itinerary in Medan included visits to his counterpart there and the Malaysian Consulate General and promoting Ipoh for VPY 2012.
