Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBU)Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBU)Five flood victims from Sungai Jernih and Kampung Siam of Kubu Gajah, whose houses were destroyed during the recent floods in the area, can now heave a sigh of relief. Their misfortunes, which gained much publicity following the April floods, prompted Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBU) to respond in kind. The foundation has undertaken the responsibility of building new houses for them. The beneficiaries are Zainab Abdul Kadir, 80, Mohd Termizi Tajudin, 50, Zakaria Alwi, 71, his wife Sabariah Mat Asek, 61, and Chik Hashim, 80. Their houses were swept away by floodwaters. Sabariah’s house in Kampung Siam collapsed due to a weak foundation caused by the inundation.

“The aid package is worth over RM60,000,” said Dato’ Zainal Abiddin Omar, Chief Executive Officer of YBU. “We’ll build the new houses at a safer site, as the present location is no longer suitable.”

The recipients were lost for words when asked to comment. “It’s God-sent,” said Sabariah. “I’ve never expected such generosity,” remarked her husband, Zakaria Alwi.
