Flute and Guitar Duo

Music aficionados in Perak are in for a rare treat when world renowned flute and guitar duo, Aisling Agnew and Matthew McAllister arrive in Ipoh to perform at Taman Budaya on 28 September 2010. The concert organised by Perak Society of Performing Arts (PSPA) in collaboration with Classical Music Society KL, will be the first of its kind in Ipoh. In conjunction with that, the duo will also be conducting workshops for discerning music lovers prior to the concert.

Classical guitarist Matthew McAllister who comes from Scotland and flautist Aisling Agnew, from Ireland, are recognised as premier exponents of the new music genre. Their critically acclaimed album Recital features a wide range of virtuosic and beautiful music from around the globe. The duo’s premiere recording of Grey Caffrey’s Pluck, Blow 11 (The Return) was recently featured on RTE Lyric FM’s latest CD release Hiccup, Aisling and Matthew have taken their music around the world and given many high profile concerts in the UK, North America, Peru and Costa Rica.

A Musical Delight will be staged at Taman Budaya, Ipoh, on Tuesday, 28 September 2010, at 8.00 p.m. while the flute and guitar workshops will be on Monday, 27 September 2010, at 6.00 p.m. at the PSPA office.

MBI Planning Director Azizuddin Alias stated that the extension is “due to requests from the Public, NGOs and Political parties to have a more thorough review”.

The oldest contributor so far was born in 1920 but anyone who was born before 1995 may submit articles and photographs via info@ipohworld.org and those whose submission(s) are published will receive a free book. The length of the articles should be between one and two typewritten pages (Times New Roman 12 or similar) and should be truthful memories of being a child in Ipoh. Where possible, relevant photographs should be provided with the articles.

As a guide to how your memories might be written down some of the donors have described the street or area they lived in and the people that lived there. Others have targeted life under the Japanese, the Emergency, cinemas and entertainment, childhood games and sports, while some have included the hawkers and traders who called in the street, the shophouse they lived in or life at school in Ipoh. The field is therefore wide open and whatever you remember about your childhood in Ipoh will be welcome.

By the way, Ian has a word of advice to those who are concerned about their grammar or spelling. You can stop worrying and start writing right now as Ian will put these little problems right before the book goes to the printers.
