Annual Fishing Carnival
A crowd of 10,000 is expected to descend on Teluk Senangin beach, Lumut in conjunction with a 2-day fishing carnival on May 3 and 4.
According to the Executive Councillor for Health, Tourism and Culture, Nolee Ashilin Dato’ Mohammed Radzi, this annual event, popularly known as GP Joran BH, is a collaborative effort by the state government, Berita Harian, Tourism Perak and the Manjung Municipal Council.
“In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014, the carnival is expected to draw more visitors and participants from within the country and abroad. We estimate about a thousand participants this time around,” said Nolee to reporters.
Main sponsor, Perodua, will offer a Myvi Special Edition to the overall winner in the deep-sea fishing category while the overall winner in the beach fishing category will win a Perodua Myvi.
Cash prizes are also up for grabs. First place winner takes home RM20,000, 2nd – RM8000, 3rd – RM4000, 4th – RM800, 5th – RM500 and 6th – RM300.
Other sub-events lined up during the carnival are cooking competitions, colouring contests for kindergarten pupils and performances by guest artists.
Nolee said that Tourism Perak would work closely with Tourism Malaysia to bring in anglers from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. Foreign media representatives would also be invited to participate in the competition.
Registration counters will be open from 8am and 4pm respectively on competition days. Entry fee is RM100 per entry. For details on the carnival call State Secretariat Building at 05-208 3600 and ask for Tourism Perak.
