Lumut Team is League Champion

Lumut football team won the recently-concluded Perak Amanjaya League Championship 2014. It defeated the Sungai Siput team 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after a scoreless draw in a nail-biting final held at the Perak Stadium on Wednesday, October 1.

The team gets the honour to keep the Menteri Besar Trophy for the rest of the year. Mohd Azman Salim was the toast of the team displaying his excellent football skills and mesmerising his opponents throughout the match.

Both sides played hard in front of almost a thousand adoring fans. But when the final whistle blew, after the regulation extra time, no goals were scored. The winner was then decided on a penalty shoot-out.

Besides winning the challenge trophy, the Lumut team won the RM30,000 cash prize on offer. The Sungai Siput team took home the RM15,000 runner-up cash prize. Third and fourth placing was won by the Bagan Serai and Tanjung Malim teams, respectively. Bagan Serai won RM7,500 while Tanjong Malim, RM5000.

Top scorer award was won by Sungai Siput’s V. Panthmanathan who netted the most number of goals throughout the league. Best goalkeeper award went to Lumut’s R. Yuvaraj whose goal-keeping was exemplary.

Prizes and awards were presented by Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir who was present throughout the final to show his support.

Prior to the final, Zambry’s team played a friendly match against a Perak selection team. The MB displayed his football skills for all to see.

The objective of the league was to help the Perak Football Association scout for new talents and to prepare itself for the upcoming Super League, the President Cup and the Piala Mas Raja-Raja in 2015.
