Preserving the Mangrove Swamps
Following the success of the Matang Mangrove Forest management programme, a logo was designed to mark its 100th anniversary.
Dato’ Professor Dr Abd. Rahman bin Abd. Rahim, Director-General of Forestry Peninsular Malaysia, said that the dolphins highlighted in the logo is symbolic of the existence of both wildlife and green nature of the Matang Mangrove Forest. Speaking at the opening of the Matang Mangrove Forest Management Conference 2014 recently, he said, “Every time the logo is used, we are reminded of the co-existence and relationship between the forest and the people.”
At the conference were former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdullah Badawi and his wife Tun Jeanne Abdullah. She is Chairman of the National Landscape Advisory Panel. Also present were state Education, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee Chairman Dato’ Dr Muhammad Amin bin Zakaria and Perak State Forestry Director Dato’ Roslan Ariffin.
The 3-day conference saw, among others, a presentation on the proposed conservation and diversity of the mangrove forest. The 400 participants including from Thailand, Japan and Belgium supported the conservation efforts of Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve.
