Musang King Durian Par Excellence
A durian variant known locally as Musang King will be a major tourist attraction in Perak besides its other touristic products. Minister of Tourism and Culture, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said that Perak is among the famous durian-producing states in Malaysia.
“Destination Perak’s effort in introducing the Musang King internationally is timely as it has a high commercial value. Many Singaporeans make Perak their stop to enjoy this King of Fruits.
“Among Singaporeans, not only is Ipoh famous as a food haven, it’s well-known for its natural environment. Its unique million-year-old limestone caves are protected from pollution and development,” he said after launching the Travel Malaysia Fair at Singapore Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Incepted in 2007, the exposition, coordinated by Tourism Perak Management Berhad, was held from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18 with various states exhibiting their tourism packages and products.
Mazri launched two tourism packages by Destination Perak which included Ipoh Adventure and Musangking@Ipoh. At the same time, Tourism Perak introduced its “Fun Map Ipoh” which received encouraging response from visitors.
Also present were the Executive Councillor for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Multimedia and Communications, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi and the Chief Executive Officer of Destination Perak, Abdul Raheem Mohammad.
According to Dato’ Nolee, Singapore recorded the highest number of visitors to Perak and this encouraging development could generate Perak’s tourism sector.
“The land and air transportation are improving in Perak. Flights from Ipoh to Singapore by a few airline companies are fast expanding with positive responses from travellers. This provides the opportunity for us to create a network marketing package via Singapore,” she said.
Abdul Raheem Mohammad said that the launch of its two tourism packages would spice up the Perak tourism industry.
“We target the latest products on the upcoming Singapore school holidays in December. I believe it would attract more tourists from Singapore.
“As for the Ipoh Adventure package, we’ll cooperate with River Bug, a company which handles extreme water sports in Gopeng. We’ll provide free transportation and a free gift in the form of a dry bag to be used during the activities,” he added.
