It was a hive of activity at the 3rd Annual Spring Festival Charity Food Fair held on Sunday, December 20 along Jalan Dato Lau Pak Khuan, Ipoh. It began with the flag-off of superbikes from MLC Motor Club by Dato’ Rusnah Kassim, Executive Councillor for Women, Family, Community Welfare Development, Housing and Local Government.
“The riders help us to promote the charity food fair by circling around Ipoh before returning to the centre,” Choong Kam Hoong, the Chairman of Society for the Management of 1Malaysia Care Centre (PPPJ1M), Perak told Ipoh Echo. The non-profit organisation co-organised the fair with Lions Club of Ipoh Mandarin.
To add to the joy, Dato’ Rusnah also launched the care centre’s new mini library which is donated by her. It has two computers, two sets of tables and chairs, academic reference books, dictionaries and story books.
“Today, Dato’ Rusnah promises that she would get us another two additional computers,” Choong said.
PPPJ1M Home is a non-profit organisation that takes on itself the responsibility to take care of orphans and homeless children, regardless of their ethnicities.
To date, there are 23 kids residing at the centre, with the youngest being 17 months old while the eldest is 18 years old.
With over 80 booths, the objectives of the charity event were to collect funds for 2016 expenses and a van for transportation needs.
“The van costs at least RM100,000. We don’t have one and our driver is using her own car to drive the kids to school and tuition centres,” he lamented.
