I have been living in Ipoh for about 19 years. Sunday January 31 was the first time I joined the car-free event which took place at Jalan Raja DiHilir.
It was fun and there were many activities to join in. What saddens me though is the poor civic consciousness of some participants. A couple were handing out free canned drinks and I saw one person throwing the empty can into the drain behind him. Someone also dropped one can on the road, with the drinks spilling out and the can itself posing a hazard to those skating or cycling. Despite the rubbish bins provided at multiple places, there were also those who threw paper cups on the road.
How sad that a “healthy event” is marred by the action of a few irresponsible people.
