Healthy Diabetes Living Starts with Breakfast Comes to Ipoh
For those living with Type 2 diabetes, a healthy breakfast should be the cornerstone meal of the day. Studies have found that eating a healthy breakfast can help manage blood sugar levels , and provide a balanced supply of energy for people with diabetes 1 .
In response to the alarming rise of Type 2 diabetes in Malaysia, NUTREN® Untuk Diabetik is leading an education initiative to reach out, and connect with pre-diabetics, people with diabetes and caregivers through its Healthy Diabetes Living Starts with Breakfast roadshow at several leading hospitals nationwide.
“Globally, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes is rising at an alarming rate . According to the International Diabetes Federation, the number of people with living with diabetes has quadrupled since 1980 to more than 400 million 2 . In Malaysia, some 3.5 million or 17.5% of Malaysian adults above the age of 18 years of age have been diagnosed with diabetes 3 . This alarming figures only confirms, that every Malaysian has a role to play in addressing this public health concern,” remarked Ms Emilyn Loo, Country Business Manager, Nestlé Health Science.
She continued, “One of the biggest concerns expressed by people living with diabetes is their diet. The Healthy Diabetes Living Starts with Breakfast roadshow focuses on the most important meal of the day – breakfast. There is a common misconception for people with diabetes to downplay and avoid breakfast. However, this can have a serious, detrimental effect on their blood sugar level.”
