Rotary Club of Kinta along with Carin Eye Centre conducted eye screening and testing for residents of Kampung Ayer Denak, Tronoh recently. The event was supervised by the club’s community service director, Dr Chandrasekaran. Residents were tested on their visual acuity.
Carin Eye Centre, First Garden, Ipoh branch and its team of four set up their ‘clinic’ at the Ayer Denak national school where the programme was held. Besides eye-screening the team also cleaned and repaired spectacles.
Nine students were given powered glasses while 24 adults received reading glasses. The cost was borne by the club. Staff members of the school had their eyes tested too.
One of the recipients exclaimed, “I can now thread my needle.” Another thanked the team profusely while clutching on to her precious gift. Many of the old folks could neither do an eye test nor buy spectacles largely due to ignorance and poverty.
Five students were given referral eye-test slips for further treatment at the nearest government hospital.
