What would be better than taking a deserving break away from the hustle and bustle of city life? Based on the familiarisation trip that was reported in Ipoh Echo Issue 236, here are details of one of the places highlighted.
Located near Gua Tempurong, Gopeng, Sahom Valley Resort is a hidden agro sanctuary steeped in age-old Malay traditions. Situated within an oil palm plantation, it is less than an hour’s drive from Ipoh.
The 15-room resort offers four kinds of accommodation, namely Kampung Warisan, Kampung Tepian Sungai, Kampung Buluh and D’Lake. The central theme is bamboo and wood, as that is the very basis of the development.
The dwellings come in the form of traditional kampong-styled Malay huts, making each dwelling a one-of-a-kind. Kampung Buluh, made of bamboo, has an open-air bathroom. You get to enjoy the open sky while having your shower.
With a stream passing through the resort, you can take a dip whenever you feel like it. There is also a lake for you to kayak, swim or to simply enjoy the view.
“Where there is water, there is sport,” said resort owner, Shariff Ali Jabad Ali.
Recreational activities available include cycling, tubing, fishing, jungle trekking, team-building and night walks. For the more fit and robust, there are ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) for hire. A dedicated track is purpose-built for this extreme sport.
It is back to nature at Sahom Valley and that is the reason behind its establishment. Like they say, nature has a way of making us small. And this is what Sahom Valley is all about.
