Collecting scrap metal and recycling items may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for Faizal Hung Abdullah, 40, it is a job.
“Everyday I’ve to find scrap metal and other items that can be sold. If lucky, I can earn more than RM300 a month. But most of the time, I only earn about RM50,” said Faizal at his ramshackle house at milestone 2.5 along Jalan Kuala Kangsar, Ipoh.
He lives with his wife, Mazliyana Azura Mohd Jaapar and their two children, Muhamad Hafiz Faizal Hung, 13, and Siti Aisyah Faizal Hung, 9. Despite his hardship, Faizal thanked the social media for helping him out.
“Ever since our story appeared on social media, a few NGOs have come forward to help out. Our new house will be ready before Hari Raya, hopefully,” added Faizal.
Realising how difficult his life is, Faizal is determined to make sure that his children will not suffer like he does.
“My lack of education has restricted me from applying for better jobs. With the qualification I have, I can only work like this. I hope my children won’t suffer the same fate. They deserve better,” said Faizal who cycles over 4km a day to send his children to school.
