SJKC Yuk Choy was among the best schools in Perak in the UPSR 2016 examinations.
Headmaster, Chen Khin On said that the comparison this year could not be stated clearly as the syllabus and new marking system, introduced by the Ministry of Education, impacted the results on the whole.
“Even though the syllabus has changed, SJKC managed to retain its excellent results. A total of 240 pupils passed all eight subjects,” he told reporters recently. “This year’s UPSR records the highest passing rate for the Science (300 students) and Mathematics (296 students),” he added.
Ten students obtained 8As, 14 with 7As and 19 got 6As.
Twelve-year-old Adam Teng Dao Foong, one of the students who scored 8As, said he paid full attention while in class and revised lessons with his mother.
“I don’t expose myself to social media like Facebook, Whatsapp and others. If I’m watching television, it’ll only be educational programmes,” Adam said.
“I dedicate my success to my mother who has given me a lot of motivation. She helps me with my revision,” he shared.
Adam represented the school at the national-level Olympic Mathematics Quiz 2016 and the Sin Chew Jit Poh Quiz. Among his achievements were champion of the national-level Chinese Language Written Exam and winner of the state Computer General Knowledge Quiz and zone Malay Language Quiz.
