Restoration and relocation of the 107-year-old Kampung Teluk Memali Mosque, which was featured in Ipoh Echo Issue 244, are now about to complete.
Witnessing the reliving of this historical mosque, ATSA Architects Sdn Bhd and committee members of the Seri Bougainvillea prayer house (surau) organised a gotong royong on the morning of Saturday, February 18. It was held at the site in Taman Seri Bougainvillea, Bandar Seri Botani.
The gotong royong was attended by 40 students from Polytechnic Ungku Omar, UiTM Seri Iskandar, Lebuh Cator Vocational College and residents.
They lent a helping hand with the finishing works like painting the kolah (ablution pond), landscaping and sorting out wood components.
“We’ve been working closely with the appointed contractor to finish the remaining site works. However, we’re still short of approximately RM100,000 to complete the toilet and other facilities,” said Ar. Azim A. Aziz, Chief Executive Officer of ATSA Architects.
Apart from that, they also witnessed a RM50,000 cheque presentation by the Chief Executive Officer of Rahsia Estates Sdn Bhd, Hajjah Hanizah Tun Abdul Hamid to the working committees.
After being abandoned for about 20 years, they had their first Zuhur prayer in the mosque, together with Ar. Azim himself. Full completion is expected by March. Readers keen on donating can do so to Tabung Pemindahan Masjid Teluk Memali, 1052 8000 3201 (Affin Islamic Bank).
“This mosque will be the state’s new architectural gem. It’ll be another historic landmark of Ipoh and Perak, per se,” said Ar. Azim.
