Tucked away in a nondescript corner of Ipoh Garden, Denis Jazz Bistro held a fundraising ‘rock concert’ of sorts in aid of Mother Teresa’s Reading Shelter (MTRS) on Sunday April 9 which lasted from 2pm to 10pm. It was an informal affair where everyone was free to come and go as they pleased with a simple lunch FOC (free of charge), courtesy of Denis. Talented musicians and even novices from home ground, Taiping and KL were invited to take centre stage and play various musical instruments provided or sing to their hearts content. The event kicked off with the impromptu band belting out songs from CCR, Santana, Deep Purple and many others to get the ball rolling. Even Broadway was not left out when one brave lass took over the mic and sang a couple of oldies to the applause of patrons. A donation box was placed in front of the band and during the course of the day people were seen dropping their gifts into the box. During intermissions when band members took a breather, auctions of various wines and liquor, donated by well-wishers, were sold to the highest bidder. All in all more than a thousand ringgit was collected that night, which was handed over to MTRS.
According to Denis, due to the success of this event they intend to hold one function every second week of each month in aid of various charities to be announced at a later date. So all you generous music lovers do wait for the next announcement and drop in for some fun and entertainment while contributing to a good cause.
