Singer, Ong Siew Ling, 37, won the Mrs Gorgeous 2017 title during the pageant finals at Kinta Riverfront Hotel and Suites, Ipoh, on Sunday, July 2.
Ong defeated 20 other aspiring mothers from various parts of the country.
She also won the Best Elegant Wear and Mrs Best Talent titles, taking home RM500 cash, a crown and a trophy for each title.
Hailing from Penang and a mother of one, Ong told Ipoh Echo that this was not her first time, as she had taken part in many beauty pageants and won before. She recently won the Mrs Malaysia Kebaya 2016 title, her first win after a break of almost a decade.
Her first beauty contest was at the age of 21. She was encouraged by a good friend.
“I didn’t really know what I wanted to do then. I realised I was very comfortable on stage. This was what that prompted me to take part,” she revealed.
However, Ong decided to take a break when she was 27.
“I felt ready to make a comeback after losing weight gained from my pregnancy in 2015,” the soft spoken Ong added.
Ong won the hearts of the judges and the audience with her poise and confidence during the cheongsam and evening wear catwalk rounds.
She received the loudest applause when showcasing robotic dance movements, before topping it up with a pulsating belly dance, which had the audience on their feet.
She completed her performance with a lively rendition of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ 80s hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You”.
Ong walked away with a stem cell facial treatment package worth RM20,000, cash prize of RM3000, a crown and a trophy.
The first runner-up title went to architectural scale modelist, Mavis Wong, 40, from Ipoh. She was adjudged Mrs Elegance. Businesswoman, Tiong Mee Keng, 69, the oldest participant, was the second runner-up.
Subsidiary title winners were entrepreneur Zenna Vong, 56, who won Mrs Best Catwalk, homemaker Sheila Hars, 56, was Mrs Sweet Smile, businesswoman Eo Ah Keau, 61, was Mrs Most Popular and Mrs Most Energetic, and self-employed Susan Mu, 55, was Mrs Photogenic.
Present at the pageant were Deputy Works Minister Dato’ Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin and Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh’s mother, Datin Janet Yeoh.
