Crew Skills International has recently been awarded a citation, on a global scale, as a recognised quality culinary education provider by the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs).
This makes it a first for Perak and the fourth in Malaysia, thus putting Crew Skills International on the map and ranking it with institutions such as Taylor’s, Sunway, Berjaya and KDU.
Worldchefs is a global network of chefs associations founded in 1928 in Paris by the venerable Auguste Escoffier who espoused global training methods for cooks.
“To be given this recognition is very significant to us because anybody, who has been trained by us and who has received the award, is going to be recognised globally. It says that the people that we produce are competent,” said Garry Prior, the Non-Executive Director of the institution.
“Plus, we are the second school in Malaysia to offer Australian qualification (RTO) which is recognised by Australian immigration authorities for professional skills visa,” Suresh Subramaniam, CEO shared with Ipoh Echo on Friday, October 13.
“For the price that we are offering, compared to most top-level schools, we are one-third their price. We don’t just train you, we also place you for jobs. We’ve tied with top range hotels in Malaysia such as St Regis, the only 6-star hotel in Malaysia. We do have job offers all over the world for our students,” Suresh added.
Crew Skills trains students as professional cooks using JPK qualifications, City & Guilds Diploma in Culinary Arts and Australian qualifications and assists candidates to get jobs. To date, Crew Skills has trained over 300 world-class chefs who are serving in industry; from 5-star hotels, resorts, fine restaurants to luxury international cruise ships.
The pool of talents at the culinary school includes Chef Bala, the Culinary Director & Senior Lecturer who has worked in many places throughout the world over the course of his career, including eight years as Principal Western Chef for Istana Brunei.
Established in 2012 at Bercham, the culinary school has intakes every month with a capacity of 25 students in a class. Fees for the combined City & Guilds diploma course (including registration, uniforms and kitchen knife set) amount to RM37,200 with monthly payments over 17 months available.
Meanwhile, course fee for the combined Australian professional chefs course is RM55,000 with progress payments available. Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) loans are available for qualifying candidates of programmes covering entry level or basic training.
