Miss International Malaysia 2016, Olivia Constance Nicholas and Dr Sandeep Menon celebrated their wedding day on Saturday, April 7 – and set a new Malaysian record in the process.
The 27-year-old Ipoh girl is listed in the Malaysia Book of Records for having the longest wedding veil measuring 120.56m. Her pristine white ensemble made of duchess satin, French lace, Swarovski crystals and pearls was designed by Louisa Amy Michael Benzi from the Pretty in White Boutique in Kuala Lumpur.
“Made to measure, this is my dream wedding gown. After seeing Princess Diana getting married, I was inspired by her long veil. Meanwhile, my lacy dress is Kate Middleton-inspired which is simple yet elegant. The creation took five months to complete,” Olivia, who has a legal career, explained.
So what’s next for the couple? “It’s careers for us after this. He will concentrate on his medical specialist examination which is coming up while I will concentrate on my new job joining the corporate sector of AIG in Kuala Lumpur,” she told Ipoh Echo.
“I got to know her through social media and started with a word of ‘Hi’ which ended with the words of ‘Will you marry me?”. She has been the most humble and has been a huge support for me,” 31-year-old Sandeep from Klang shared.
“For me, he is everything I’ve always dreamt of in a man. He is dashing in his own way, in every aspect possible. It’s beyond words, honestly!” the amiable Olivia added.
Held at The Church of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Ipoh Garden, the church ceremony followed on the heels of a Hindu ceremony in KL. Olivia’s identical twin, Olinda Josephine Nicholas, was the maid of honour. There were four other pairs of twins spotted among the groomsmen (Neal and Nigel Edwin), bridesmaids (Isabelle and Rosabelle), matrons of honour (Maxine and Claudine) and guests (Sandeep’s older brother is married to a fraternal twin).
There were guests coming from far and wide from both sides of the family. In attendance among others were eight beauty queens all clad in red from Miss International 2016 pageant who joined the bridesmaid team: Guinevere Davenport (Hawaii), Jess Tyson (New Zealand), Katherine Gannon (Ireland), Rewati Chetri (India), Huiqi Wang (Singapore), Peachy Quitugua (Northern Mariana), Shavina Hulkua (Mauritius) and Stephanie Dash Karam (Lebanon).
Together with Olivia, the girls attended a week of charitable activities here leading up to the happy occasion. “I wish all success and happiness to the both of them. Plus, it was a great pleasure to be a part of such an eventful platform which Olivia created, where we spread the awareness of cancer and the importance of women’s health. Having a great time here, I’m loving the food and the people,” Rewati Chetri enthused.
Jess Tyson expressed, “Olivia and Sandeep have got amazing careers ahead of them and passion to help the community so I hope the future is going to be bright for them. Having Olivia invite me here was a once in a lifetime experience and we’ve been travelling to some of the most amazing places. Hopefully in the future we’ll get to meet up again, all of us.”
Ipoh Echo wishes them the very best!
