One hundred students of SMK St Michael Ipoh were presented with co-curricular excellence awards by the Member of Parliament for Ipoh Timor, Wong KahWoh on Friday, October 26.
Principal Sit Wai Yin said both the school and parents had a hand in creating disciplined and responsible students in academic and co-curricular fields.
The school, he said, viewed disciplinary issues among pupils seriously and the two-way cooperation was the best way to instill students’ confidence through involvement in co-curricular activities.
“The main focus is not solely academic; co-curricular activities help create students who are able to make the right life decisions. With encouragement, they can achieve success both at school and international levels,” he added.
At the same ceremony, Wong KahWoh presented the school’s full colours to 40 students.
Five students were presented with the King’s Scout Award for completing the scout badges scheme.
Scout master, Christopher said that the King’s Scout Award is the highest secondary school level award from the Scouts Association of Malaysia. The certificate is signed by the King. According to him, one has to undergo certain tests and acquire specific badges to be eligible for the award.
King’s Scout Award recipient, Chan Wai Hong expressed his gratitude to his teacher, Christopher for getting him involved in the school’s scout movement. It taught him many useful life skills.
The other recipient, Krishna Prasath, joined the movement as it was the most influential society in his school. “I learnt a lot of new things. The knowledge I acquired has benefited me in many ways,” he exclaimed.
