Mitsuki Wins Junior Tennis Title
Thirteen-year old Mitsuki Leong from SMJK Poi Lam, Ipoh won the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) Junior U-14 boys’ tennis tournament held in Langkawi recently.
He beat players from over eight countries to take the number one spot for both the singles and the doubles competition at the international junior tennis tournament.
“This is my first time winning both singles and doubles titles at the ATF Juniors,” said an elated Mitsuki, whose daily training with his dad, tennis coach Jeff Leong at the MBI tennis courts has paid off.
The teenager started competing in the ATF Juniors at the start of this year and was ranked 337 after his first ATF debut. At the second ATF leg, he came in second in singles and doubles, and in the third leg, he was third in singles and second in doubles. With the latest victory he is now ranked top-40 in ATF and his national ranking, as of early this year, was top-3.
His 10-year-old sister, Shihomi Leong from SJKC Poi Lam is another star in the making after being placed fourth overall in the Girls U-14 at the same tournament in Langkawi. Her opponents were much older than her. Shihomi’s national ranking is top 3 today for girls U12 while her ATF ranking is 99 for girls U14.
Well done to the Leong siblings for making Ipoh proud.
