Internationally-acclaimed budget airline, AirAsia began its inaugural flight between Singapore and Ipoh on Monday, November 3.
The designated Airbus A320-200 departed Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4 at 11.40am and arrived at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh at 1pm.
Passengers on board were greeted on alighting by Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Perak State Secretary Haji Zainal Azman Bin Abu Seman, Executive Councillor for Tourism, Arts and Culture Tan Kar Hing, Tourism Perak CEO Zuraida Md Taib, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport Manager Mohd Ali Osman and AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat.
“As of last year 7,639,800 domestic tourists visited the state while the number of foreign tourists stands at 267,245. The state government believes AirAsia’s four weekly flights to and from Singapore will help the state to realise our vision to establish Perak as the foremost destination in Malaysia,” said Faizal.
“Since the launch of the Johor Bahru-Ipoh flight route in October, we’ve flown close to 10,000 passengers in and out of Ipoh, including from China, Indonesia, India and Singapore. This new Singapore service complements our effort to expand our Ipoh network. Hopefully, it’ll contribute to increased tourist traffic to Ipoh and Perak, as a whole,” said Riad Asmat.
To celebrate the new service, AirAsia is offering celebratory fares from as low as RM59 from Ipoh to Singapore. The promotional fare is available for booking on www.airasia.com and the AirAsia mobile app from now till December 16 for immediate travel through to May 5, 2019.
AirAsia now connects Ipoh to Johor Bahru and Singapore with 16 weekly return flights. The budget airline will also increase its flight frequency between Johor Bahru and Ipoh from four to seven weekly flights beginning February 12, 2019.
