Formerly known as Ipoh City Council (MBI) Swimming Complex, the Tuanku Zara Aquatic Centre has successfully undergone an RM43mil upgrade.

Executive Councillor for State Youth and Sports Development Howard Lee Chuan How said that upgrading works on the aquatic centre completed in February 2018, which took 17 months.

“An Olympic-size pool with 10 lanes for world standard competitions which is at the closed complex can accommodate up to 3,000 spectators at a time,” he said. “A pool and a diving tower at the open section are built according to the International Amateur Swimming Federation (FINA) standards.”

The Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim was present to officiate the aquatic centre named after her.

“Back in my school days, I was active in swimming and I was near representing Perak for competitions,” Tuanku Zara said.

The aquatic centre was utilised for swimming and diving events of the 2018 Perak Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
