Ad. U, a student-run advertising agency comprising of communication students from the faculty of social sciences of Quest International University Perak (QIU) was launched in early October. It was held at QIU’s on-campus BuzzHub recording studio.
Aimed to redefine hands-on education and provide a first-hand taste of real day-to-day challenges in the field, the revolutionary agency provides services in the form of radio promos, social media management, media training, photos, videos, marketing communication strategy, copywriting and editing.
The Ad. U team, currently made up of 11 members of different semesters under the fitting name of “The Pioneers”, showcased their first project during the event – a promo video series designed for social media for their first client, Hoga Gaharu Tea Valley.
QIU Chief Operating Officer, Nicholas Goh stated, “Ad. U will prove an excellent vehicle for advancing the personal and professional development of communication students in line with industry demands. Before Ad. U, we have previous experience working with hotels which received plenty of positive feedback and created spikes of interest for them. Thus, I believe with this project, there will be a traffic jam in Gopeng soon where Gaharu is!”
Hoga Gaharu Tea Valley Chief Executive Officer, Nicklaus Ho enthused that the final product was “beyond our expectations,” adding that they looked forward to partnering with QIU on future projects. “We in the company encourage the participation of homegrown local talents. Malaysia boleh (can do it)!” he added.
Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Project Advisor of Ad. U, Associate Professor Dr Adeline Kok, explained, “This is just the beginning. The idea was conceptualised in line with QIU’s ongoing mission to provide deep experiential learning opportunities to students. There will be more clients to come, definitely.”
The Ad. U initiative was the brainchild of hers. When asked on the meaning behind the name, Ad. U, she said, “Ad stands for ‘advertisements’. Meanwhile, U represents ‘university’ and ‘you’. The latter to depict advertising specially made for you.”
Present were Kourtney Goh, project manager and advertising student and Moby Noor, producer of the Gaharu project and final-year journalism student.
