Newly appointed Ipoh mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin hopes to stabilise the economy of the industrial sectors resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
“Our main priority now is to spur physical and economic development in Ipoh to assist industry players in the construction sector,” he said. “As the state’s local authority, Ipoh City Council (MBI) also tends to issues within other relevant sectors seriously.”
The statement above was derived from the first online conference of MBI’s One Stop Centre (OSC) unit during the ongoing Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Among those that joined the conference were Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS), Indah Water Konsortium, Perak Water Board (LAP), and nine departments within MBI such as the Town Planning Department (JPBD), Public Works Department (JKR), Development Control Department and Landscape Department.
Rumaizi added that the initiative could boost the country’s economic growth, especially in Ipoh.
“Hopefully, our efforts will prevent layoffs and thus, reduce unemployment rates that could cause social issues,” he expressed.
“That being said, we must not overlook quality and safety aspects based on SOPs imposed by the government,” Rumaizi stressed. “Social distancing, hand washing and wearing face masks should be practiced constantly to ensure effective prevention of the deadly virus.”
