MBI Faces COVID-19 and Economic Turmoil
Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin has plans of restarting activities around town in the hope to resolve the ongoing economic crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As of now, we have two main challenges which need to be faced wisely in a short period of time,” he told reporters at a food box aid programme in Ipoh City Council (MBI) on May 19.
“First, how do we ensure all sectors are free from the deadly virus’ spread chain?” Rumaizi posited. “Second, we are facing economic turmoil which is hard-hitting not only our country but other nations too.
“In the long run, to ensure Ipohites are living satisfactorily, healthily and safely, we would need to build a sustainable city,” he stated.
In a similar development, Rumaizi expressed concern over the possible increase of littering in view of the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
“Most of the public are unable to return to their kampongs for the celebration because CMCO is in power,” he added. “Rest assured, MBI will still be carrying out duties in collecting trash around town.
“Statistics from 2019 showed a total of 1, 200 tons in discarded trash but hopefully, the amount will not be more than 10 percent of the number this year,” Rumaizi said.
