The global natural gas price has collapsed substantially but local piped gas prices reviewed bi-annually by the government through the Energy Commission (EC) have yet to see any form of reduction.
Natural gas supply through the gas pipeline is used for electricity generation and raw material for manufacturing of glass, food, metallurgy, fabrication, electronics, beverages, rubber etc.
Currently, manufactured products and electricity are overpriced as manufactures and power generators overpays for their natural gas.
Lowering gas prices ensures competitive pricing for domestic manufactured products and cheaper electricity improving national economic recovery.
The government should dismantle protectionism in the natural gas industry by allowing free float of natural gas pricing for the nation to benefit greatly.
