The Society of the Blind in Malaysia (SBM) Perak Branch needs immediate renovation for their building just next to the Medan Kidd Budget Hotel.
According to the State Executive Councillor for Education, Human Capital Development, NGO and Civil Community, Razman Zakaria, the upgrading works are to create a safer and more comfortable environment for members of SBM Perak.
“The roof of the building needs to be changed due to leakage caused by dilapidated wooden structures,” he told reporters during an official visit to the building yesterday on July 13.
“Besides that, floor tiles need to be fixed, not mentioning dysfunctional toilets,” Razman added.
He mentioned that contractors will be sent to the building for further inspections.
“Other facilities in the building, if absolutely required, will be renovated in stages,” Razman remarked.
Chairman of SBM Perak, Idris Hashim, mentioned that the building which was owned since 2018 will be utilised as an operations office, besides being a training ground for its 160 members in the short run.
“This building was chosen due to its strategic location. It’s near the bus station, train station and taxi hailing services,” he expressed. “Most of our members take the public transport to move around, so it’ll be easy for them to travel to the building.
“I thank the government for their support towards SBM,” Idris expressed gratefully.
