Some 2,427 students and 184 lecturers of Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) have agreed to receive a special package from Celcom Axiata worth RM100,000.
This package enables members of USAS to access an e-learning portal for unlimited studies until the end of December this year.
According to the vice chancellor of USAS, Tan Sri Prof. Dr Nordin Kardin, the internet data telecommunications offer is to fulfil students’ requirement for completion of studies via cyberspace following the Movement Control Order (MCO) due to COVID-19.
“The package enables internet access for students to use the e-portal unlimitedly,” he told reporters at a SIM card presentation ceremony at USAS today on July 28.
“For other uses, however, a 10 gigabyte monthly limit is imposed,” Nordin said.
Also present were chief of communications for Celcom Axiata Berhad, Mohd Hafizi Mohd Padely, who presented the SIM card to Nordin, and the deputy vice chancellor of USAS, Anas Md Yusof.
Nordin added that the package is an initiative taken, following a research study done on USAS students.
The university’s student representative council did two surveys in March and April earlier this year. They found that a majority of students had trouble accessing the internet while being out of campus premises.
“For now, all lecture and tutorial classes in USAS are executed remotely via the USAS Learning Management System (LMS) Portal,” Nordin mentioned. “Only new students in their first trimesters are required to attend physical classes.”
