Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his televised address today (August 28) announced that the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) is to be extended till December 31.
He expressed his support for the Ministry of Health’s proposal to increase the compound for related offenses to two or three times the current amount, adding that the matter requires fine-tuning besides amendment to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
He reminded all to keep practising the new normal and adhere to the existing Standard Operating Procedure in daily life. For example, to wear face masks, wash hands frequently, practise good personal hygiene and avoid crowded settings.
As face masks have become a necessity, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs is currently in discussion with manufacturers and suppliers, aiming to reduce the price of face masks to lessen the burden of the people.
The COVID-19 Fund under the National Disaster Management Agency which aids prevention efforts and those directly affected by the COVID-19 infections is also extended till December 31 in line with the extension of the RMCO.
“Night clubs and entertainment centres are still not allowed to operate. International tourists are still barred from entering the country. Sports activities are allowed minus the audience and international players,” he explained.
“We are all frontliners in the fight against the virus, thus each of us must play our respective role,” he stressed.
