UMNO Open to Cooperation with PH and DAP
United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) doesn’t rule out the possibility of working with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, which includes Democratic Action Party (DAP), in forming a new Perak government.
According to the president of UMNO, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, this followed objections from the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu) against the formation of a new state government.
However, Ahmad Zahid added that a new coalition is subject to ultimate decision from parties’ highest leadership.
“If possible, UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) would like for the existing government to remain, but given objections from PAS and Bersatu, UMNO will be taking a new approach in forming a new government.
“This will take all political considerations into account to ensure that the new government is a much more stable one.
“We’ll look into all possibilities, but they will be subject to a party’s final decision,” he said.
He told the media so after having an audience with HRH Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at Istana Kinta today (December 6), following the current political turmoil in the state.
Ahmad Zahid added, he will be putting forward the name of an UMNO leader to be reviewed by Sultan Nazrin as a Menteri Besar candidate.
“I’m as far as just suggesting. Sultan Nazrin will have the final say on who is to be appointed as the new Menteri Besar of Perak,” he mentioned.
