Mini Botanical Garden to be Built in D.R. Park
A mini botanical garden will be built in stages by Ipoh City Council (MBI) at D.R. Seenivasagam Recreational Park (formerly known as Coronation Park), starting January 2021.
According to the Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, the garden is based on the forest city concept and is inspired by the architecture of Orchard Road in Singapore.
“The garden will showcase plants commonly used for staple food, medicinal purposes, carpentry, beauty and religious purposes.
“A few areas in D.R. Park will undergo a transformation process once the works commence, in which greeneries will be replanted with forest tree species of higher rates of carbon dioxide absorption and oxygen release, which then helps in reducing average temperature in Ipoh.”
He stated so after the council’s full board meeting today (December 24).
Tambun Road to be Upgraded
Meanwhile, MBI will be undertaking a joint venture project with Sunway City (Ipoh) Sdn Bhd to upgrade Tambun Road for smoother traffic flow.
“The stretch of road involved starts from the Kuala Lumpur/Penang highway intersection to the traffic lights intersection at Taman Perpaduan, spanning 5.3km.
“The RM16.35-million project, which also includes improving the drainage system along the road, will tentatively start during the first quarter of 2021 with expected completion in mid-2022,” Rumaizi added.
