Gua Matsoorat Soon to Be the 19th Geosite in Perak
Gua Matsoorat will soon be the 19th geosite under the Kinta Valley Geopark and an addition to tourism products in the state.
According to the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi, Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) target of making Gua Matsoorat the 19th geosite is a smart and accurate decision.
“Gua Matsoorat, which is located near Gunung Lang, is a natural limestone landscape strategic for geotourism activities, besides having the potential of being a site for geological studies.
“The state government welcomes the effort to make Gua Matsoorat a geosite and a tourism product. However, safety aspects need to be taken seriously, as done by the Mineral and Geoscience Department Malaysia (JMG) Perak, to identify mapping, characterisation and rating, alongside limestone hill safety research of Gua Matsoorat.
She said so in a media statement dated today (February 24).
