A single mother’s dream of living in a comfortable house became a reality after receiving a residence key from the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) (People’s Housing Programme) at Sri Connolly Flat in Jalan Pasir Puteh on Sunday, March 7.
Rokiah Md Sapi, 50, said that she currently rents at Taman Pengkalan Jaya at a rate of RM450 per month.
“I’m enthused over the approval of the PPR rental application. I didn’t expect for it to succeed as I submitted the form in July last year.
“If it’s possible, I’d like to move to the unit immediately, as the low rental of RM100 is able to lessen financial burdens, since I only work as a cook,” she expressed.
Another renter, Mohd Azrul Azmi, 28, said that he’s currently staying at his in-law’s house at Desa Pelancongan with his wife and three children for the last six years.
He stated that the opportunity to reside in another place has always been the entire family’s hope, albeit postponed due to financial restraints.
“I applied for the PPR unit here last year and thankfully, it was approved, and it was a rather easy process.
“With a rental rate of only RM100, it’s not a burden to my stay-at-home wife and I who run a small online business,” Mohd Azrul said.
Five renters received offer letters and house key replicas, all which were presented by the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad during a ‘Gotong-Royong Bersama Menteri Besar Perak’ communal work ceremony at the flat on the same day.
Also in attendance were the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi and the Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin.
