Driver Feared Drowned; Proton Satria Plunged Into a Mine
A Proton Satria driver is believed to have drowned after the vehicle plunged into a mine behind TF Supermarket in Sungai Siput this morning (March 15).
During the incident which took place around 7am, the police found a wallet and a pair of slippers at the edge of the 15m-deep mine.
According to a spokesperson for the State Fire and Rescue Department, they received an emergency call at 7.20am before a squad from the Sungai Siput Fire Station rushed to the scene.
He added, based on intelligence from the police, the search operation is done on both the surface and through diving.
“The fire station mobilised the search and rescue operation with a manpower of 24 personnel, including a surface water rescue team aided by the police.
“To date, signs of the victim have yet to be found and the search is still ongoing,” he added.
The operation is headed by the Chief of Sungai Siput Fire Station, Mohd Azizi Zakaria.
