Gunung Lang Recreational Park has an astounding flowering phenomenon happening due to the ongoing heat wave in Ipoh, akin to spring.
According to the Landscape Director of Ipoh City Council (MBI), Meor Abdullah Zaidi Meor Razali, 49, these flowers are of the ‘Cat Claws’ species, a creeping tree which blooms between March and April.
“The flowering tree was planted in 2003, a time when the recreational park started construction. As usual, it bears flowers every year, but this time around, the tree bore unusually lush flowers.
“The last time this tree bore such a prolific amount of flowers was in 2014, when the El Niño phenomenon occurred in our country. History repeats itself this time as the continuous hot weather from February affected the Cat Claws plant.”
He commented so when contacted today (March 17).
The yellow Cat Claws flowers are flourishing on the park’s gate and nearby sheds.
Meor Abdullah added, the flowers will last for a long time should the hot weather resume, but will fall in the event of a downpour.
“Now is the best time for the public to visit the recreational park for photo sessions as the phenomenon rarely ever happens,” he mentioned.
Gunung Lang Recreational Park operates from 8am to 7pm daily. Boat charges are RM3 for adults and RM1.50 for children, operating from 8.30am to 6pm daily.
