Menteri Besar Dato’ Saarani Mohamad made a site visit to observe first-hand the implementation of Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) Pengkalan Hulu in Gerik yesterday (May 17).
Upon arrival, Saarani, together with several executive councillors, were provided with briefings and reports at the Pengkalan Hulu District Office, the Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) and the Control Post On Scene (PKTK).
Saarani explained that a few decisions were made including tightening the MCO standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the area, based on risk assessment from the National Security Council and Ministry of Health.
It included a ban on inter-district activities without urgent matters, shortening business hours to prevent people from being outside for too long and increasing enforcement to ensure physical distancing.
“I understand that many would like to donate by delivering pulut (glutinous rice), lemang (glutinous rice mixed with coconut milk, coated with banana leaves and cooked in a hollow bamboo tube) and others to the students. However, all food to be brought in must first be sent to the Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB).
“Cooked food suppliers appointed by MARA are responsible for providing nutritious and safe food to all students and teachers involved, following the set SOPs,” he stated via his Facebook page.
According to him, this step was aimed to ensure the health and safety of the students at MRSM.
He advised the local community to stay calm and adhere to SOPs to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission.
“May the situation at the affected area improve and the students as well as residents could carry out their daily lives like usual,” Saarani added.
