A man claimed trial over false insurance claims at the Ipoh Sessions/Magistrate Court today (May 27).
The accused, Muhammed Fairus Mohammad Ali Rominidass, 36, pleaded not guilty in front of Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus.
According to charge sheets, he allegedly attempted to cheat Zurich Insurance Malaysia by presenting false road accident insurance claims, which deceived the company into approving them.
The accused allegedly committed the offence at Persiaran Greenhill in Ipoh on May 8, 2019.
He is subject to punishment under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which was read alongside Section 511 of the same Code.
Punishment entails imprisonment of up to 10 years, whipping and a fine, should the accused be found guilty.
The court ordered for a RM3,000 bail with one surety, while the case was fixed for re-mention on June 28.
The session was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Fatimah Hannah Abd Wahab, while the accused was represented by lawyer Jagdave Singh.
