The funeral of the Mufti of Perak, the late Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria was held on a cloudy and gloomy evening at the Kampung Melayu Sungai Rapat cemetery today (May 30).
The body of the deceased arrived at 6.05pm in a hearse and was accompanied by members of the Perak State Health Department who were dressed in full personal protective equipment (PPE) suits.
With police guarding the entrance, only a few immediate family members of the deceased were seen at the funeral.
Meanwhile, more than 30 media personnel were allowed to observe from a 20-meter distance while complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) of physical distancing. The late Perak Mufti was laid to rest at 6.20pm.
The body of the Perak Mufti was transported from the Forensic Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) at 5.55pm to the cemetery for burial.
The Deputy Mufti of Perak, Datuk Zamri Hashim said that the passing of the late Harussani was a great loss as his stature was irreplaceable. Zamri added that he was saddened by the news but also could not make it on time to visit Harussani while he was receiving treatment at HRPB due to compliance with the COVID-19 procedure.
“I am aware that his passing was due to COVID-19. The last time I visited the late Perak Mufti was at his home before being treated at HRPB,” he told reporters at the cemetery.
The late Harussani was born on April 8, 1939 in Kampung Parit Tok Ngah, Tanjung Piandang, Parit Buntar. He was appointed as the Mufti of Perak in 1985. He was married to Puan Sri Hajjah Ainon bt. Abdul Ghani since July 31, 1966 and they have four children together.
