The Ipoh City Council (MBI) informed today (June 4) that the Tanjung Rambutan Market is free of COVID-19 and is operating as usual following the instruction issued by the National Security Council.
The local authority (PBT) issued the notice following a fake message which went viral on social media and WhatsApp, claiming a meat seller found to be COVID-19 positive is still trading at the market.
It is understood that the fake message which spread from May 31 has caused worry among consumers and discouraged them from visiting the market, thus impacting business.
However, the meat seller mentioned in the fake message had undergone a swab test and tested negative.
The seller had also made a police report in order to trace the party who spread the fake news.
