A fire broke out in Padang Astaka, a field park at Kampung Serdang in Sitiawan, Perak, earlier today (July 22) due to the hot weather.
According to a spokesperson for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call was received at around 2.49pm.
“A squad and a vehicle from the Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched to the location.
“Upon arrival, the fire was already burning a 15-acre wide weed patch in the field.
“Owing to the dry condition of the field and recent hot weather, these are primary contributors to the onset of the fire.
“Aided by volunteer fire brigades (PBS) from Ayer Tawar, Pantai Remis and Pekan Gurney, the blaze was extinguished using four hose reels of 400ft each with four jets.
“No victims were reported,” the spokesperson explained.
The operation which ended at around 4.49pm was led by Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent (PKPgB) Mohd Zaki Zainol.
JBPM reminded members of the public to refrain from engaging in any open burning activities, particularly during the ongoing hot weather.
