The administration of COVID-19 vaccine booster shots for high-risk groups will be implemented after the country has achieved 80 percent of immunisation coverage of the adult population.
Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government has agreed to implement the proposal.
He said priority is given to high-risk groups first such as healthcare frontliners, immune-deficient patients and elderly with comorbidities.
“The booster shot will also cover individuals living or working long-term in care centers.
“This third dose can increase the level of immunity in individuals who are at high risk of COVID-19 infection, as immunity may decrease within a certain period after the second dose,” he said in a statement.
In regards to that, a panel of medical and health experts is developing guidelines for the implementation of this third dose.
The Prime Minister said all the details regarding the implementation of the COVID-19 Care Package, as well as the administration of the booster shot, will be announced by the Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
