The country is close to achieving herd immunity, with almost 80 percent of adults having been fully vaccinated.
The matter was announced by the Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob via a brief statement on his Twitter page.
“Congratulations! Malaysia has fully vaccinated 80 percent of its adult population.
“Let’s continue our efforts to fight COVID-19,” he said briefly through the tweet.
Although the number of daily COVID-19 cases is still at five figures, most of the patients are currently only in categories one and two (asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms).
Today, the country recorded 15,759 positive COVID-19 cases while yesterday, 14,345 cases were recorded.
Yesterday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar announced that the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) for teenagers has officially started by targeting 3.2 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 years.
He said the implementation of PICK Remaja (teenagers) is done through several methods.
Among them are outreach programmes to schools or institutions on a scheduled basis, inoculation at health clinics and hospitals, as well as walk-in at selected vaccination centers (PPV) in the country.
